Samuel Vincent Appleby, son of Albert (Bert) Samuel and Jessie L. Appleby, of Kansas City, Missouri born about 1922 (age 8 yrs in 1930 Census). Grandson of Albert Barnes Appleby and Laura Jarrett of Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Lieutenant Appleby served with the 325th Bomber Squadron; 92nd Bomber Group, Heavy. He was awarded the Air Medal with Two Oak Clusters and the Purple Heart. He died 11 April 1944 and is buried in Plot B, Row 43, Grave 7 at Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium. May have had a wife and child, but at time of enlistment, the record stated he was not married. |
