James Preston Appleby

It is said he came to Colleton County, South Carolina about 1785, an affluent young man with a fine horse, a pack mule and a slave. His name was James Preston Appleby, his parents age, birthplace and birthdate not known by this researcher. He married, 23rd November 1790 to Mary Rumph of Orangeburg, South Carolina. Mary was born in 1773 and died 1852. James Preston Appleby died 1849, both he and Mary are buried in Hagerman's Cemetery, near St. George Parish, now Dorchester, South Carolina. Their children were all born in St. George Parish, between the years 1792-1816: Richard E.; Thomas Algier; Sarah Ann; James Preston, jr.; Peter Ridley; Jacob Walter; Ann; David Clinton; Alfred Marion William; Morgan Thomas and Carolyn Margaret.
