Earthly life began for Rickey Eugene Appleby on the twenty-seventh of May 1945, in East Los Angeles, California. It ended on the ninth of March 1968, in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. Rickey joined the Marine Corp when he was seventeen years old. On the sixteenth of June, 1966, after a furlough home at the end of the first tour of duty, he signed on for a second time. He held the rank of Lance Corporal. He spent most of those years fighting on the front lines. Seemingly, long overdue, Rickey received an assignment behind the lines. Then, came that fateful day in March 1968, Rickey and three other Marines were killed when their jeep was destroyed by a landmine. Rickey's mother is Ruth Lorraine (Parker) Cooper and his father, Earl Gilford Appleby, jr., born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, his death in 1978. Rickey Eugene Appleby's gravesite, Q1393, is in the Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, California.
